Can marriage of European christian woman and muslim man work?

Ok. I am "dating" this Algerian man over 7 months and i really love him. We are talking about marriage and even decided what pet we will have and how many kids and so on. But my family keeps telling me that it cant work, and they are telling me all those horrible stories about muslims that friend of a friend told them about.This Algerian man was telling me about islam and i like it and respect it but i don't think i would ever want to be a muslim. He is the sweetest guy i ever met. But i really need to know if it can work. I need to know it ONLY FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, i have enough of opinions and stories "of a friend" from my family. Can this marriage work???
