In the movie Moulin Rouge, how natural is Ewan McGregor's voice?

I just recently watched the movie Moulin Rouge and fell in love with both the story and the voice of Christian, played by Ewan McGregor. Was his voice natural? If so, has he considered releasing an album.. or doing more musicals? I don't know much about him. Anyone know?
